In-flight food, Yummy or Yuck?
We all get hungry and even more so
when our journeys are long.
But what do you like to eat? Are you, as a virtual flyer into
snacks, like peanuts and crisps or do you prefer to pause the
flight and go get some proper nourishment from the
kitchen?
If you’re a frequent flyer, you know what to expect when it comes to standards in the food department, from cold sandwiches to hot baguettes, from all day breakfast to stuffed chicken, beef, turkey and even side helpings of salad for the vegetarian. With so much available and on offer it is hard to feel anything other than warmth towards the airline for going to all this trouble, even when you’re told there is a price to pay.
Some folk actually love the airline food on offer while others hate it with a passion, and yes I said Hate not Ate! Do we expect too much when going on a business trip or jetting off for that two week leisure break to the Mediterranean? Just think for a minute, you’re thirty thousand feet off the ground and you have an opportunity to eat! When put like that it does sound incredible, but it is still something we all take for granted.
Times have changed for the airline industry, no more days of highly rich individuals being the main benefactor of such luxury, and that is just the flying never mind the extras you can expect when on board the aircraft. In today’s modern era everyone is in a rush to get from A – B with the smallest amount of fuss, we all look for safety, care and hospitality aboard an aircraft and especially quality, so when the small but deceptively big trolley comes trundling down the centre aisle, it's one of the BIG moments we have been waiting for, its food time!
That aside, have you ever wondered
what the crew eat?
Interestingly, the taste buds of the crew are in some cases very
similar to the passenger, this being simple food, served simply.
You can still get the five star cordon bleu treatment on some
airlines but for the majority its generally a matter of opening
the different wrappers before realising you have no where to put
it, so it ends up in the magazine rack in front of you.
We have looked at airline food and in particular crew food. So here are a couple of examples, see if you can figure out which airlines the food on display relates too.

This was a very special crew meal for
us, as this flight was the first flight for (GUESS THE AIRLINE)
FIRST A321, reg D-ALAO, leased from Aero Lloyd. The Captain and
First Officer brought us two frozen pizzas, and as the "spare"
crew member for that flight (I was non-revving just to fly for
the day) I got to cook it. Thanks guys!

Fantastic bit of meat; juicy and
tender and cooked to perfection! Nice char-grilled flavour but
not too overpowering. Potato slices made a nice change from the
usual roast-potatoes and the onion gravy really complemented the
whole dish. The vegetables were a little "mushy" but the spinach
was fab! (GUESS THE AIRLINE)
Did you work out which company the
respective offerings came from?
Well without giving too much away one was from British Airways
and the other Ryan Air. I will leave the rest to your
judgement!
